FAQ

GIF to PNG FAQ

Is this GIF to PNG converter free? Is there a watermark?

Yes—free and unlimited, with no sign-up and no watermark.

Will the PNG still be animated?

No. A PNG is a still image, so each GIF frame becomes its own PNG file. Keep the GIF for animation, or use GIF to MP4 for video apps.

Is the transparent background kept?

Yes. Pixels that are transparent in the GIF stay transparent in the PNG. GIF transparency is on-or-off, so a GIF with jagged or white-fringed edges keeps them in the PNG too.

How do I get just the first frame, or one specific frame?

Tap “First only” and download. For another frame, tap its thumbnail so the preview jumps to it, then choose “Download only frame N”.

Why do some tools give broken or patchy frames?

Many GIFs store only what changed since the previous frame, so splitting them naively gives you just that patch. This tool follows the GIF’s disposal rules and rebuilds the full picture for every frame before saving it.

Does converting to PNG lose quality? Why are the files bigger?

No quality is lost—PNG is lossless, so the pixels match the GIF exactly. But a GIF stores only the changes while each PNG holds a whole picture, so all the PNGs together are usually several times larger than the GIF. That’s expected.

What size are the PNGs? Can I change it?

Exactly the GIF’s own size. For another size, run the GIF through the GIF resizer or cropper first, then convert.

Is my GIF uploaded?

No. The GIF is decoded, rebuilt and exported in your browser, so it never leaves your device.

Does it work on phones?

Yes. In Safari on iPhone or Chrome on Android, tap Save and choose “Save Image” in the share sheet. If an in-app browser can’t save files, open the page in your phone’s browser.
