Why crop

Cropping does more than change the shape

Cutting away what you don’t need first often makes everything else work better.

A bigger, clearer subject

Stickers show at a couple of hundred pixels in a chat; frame the subject tightly so faces and text stay readable.

A smaller file

Cut half the picture and you drop half the pixels, so the file usually shrinks a lot and compresses with less quality loss.

No quality loss

Cropping alone keeps the remaining pixels exactly as they were—no resampling.

FAQ

GIF cropper FAQ

Is this GIF cropper free? Is there a watermark?

Yes—free and unlimited, with no sign-up and no watermark.

How do I crop a GIF to a square?

Choose 1:1 under Crop, drag the frame over the subject and crop. For a WeChat sticker, also pick 240 px under Resize to get exactly 240×240.

Does cropping reduce quality?

No. Cropping alone keeps the remaining pixels unchanged; only resizing resamples them.

Does cropping change the animation?

No. Every frame is cropped with the same frame, and the frame count, speed, looping and transparency stay the same.

What’s the difference between cropping, resizing and compressing a GIF?

Cropping cuts away part of the picture without distorting what’s left; resizing scales the whole picture up or down; compressing reduces the file’s kilobytes while keeping the picture as close as possible. Combine them: crop away the extra, resize to the target dimensions, then compress if the file is still too big.

Can I crop to exact pixels?

Yes. Type X, Y, width and height and the frame follows; arrow keys nudge it 1 px, or 10 px with Shift.

Can I trim the GIF’s length?

This tool crops the picture, not the duration. If the GIF came from a video, use MP4 to GIF to cut the clip you want.

Is my GIF uploaded?

No. gifsicle is compiled to WebAssembly and runs in your browser, so the GIF never leaves your device.

Does it work on phones? How big a GIF?

Yes—current desktop and mobile browsers work, and you can drag the frame with a finger. GIFs up to 50 MB.
